How kWh to Joules works

A kilowatt-hour is the unit your electricity meter records: 1,000 watts sustained for one hour. Because one watt is one joule per second, a kilowatt-hour equals 1,000 × 3,600 = 3,600,000 joules.

To convert any kWh figure to joules, multiply by 3,600,000. This is useful when you want to compare a household energy figure against scientific values quoted in joules or megajoules.

Why is a kWh so many joules?
